Lifelong Manchester United supporter · Youth football coach · Podcast analyst
I've supported Manchester United for as long as I can remember. I've also spent years coaching youth football, which has changed the way I watch the game. I find myself paying less attention to where the ball is and more to what happens around it. How teams create space, why players make certain decisions, and what happens when the game plan stops working.
I'm not a professional football journalist, and I don't pretend to have all the answers. I'm a lifelong United fan who loves the tactical side of football, enjoys digging into the data, and has become increasingly frustrated with watching the same problems return under different managers.
Fixing United is where I try to make sense of it all. Long-form analysis, opinions backed by evidence, and occasionally a little frustration. The aim isn't to prove I'm right. It's to understand what's actually wrong with United and what it might take to fix it.
How I approach the game
- Opinions need evidence
- I have strong opinions about United, but I try to back them up with match analysis, statistics and reliable sources. When something is my interpretation rather than an established fact, I'll make that clear.
- Data needs context
- Football isn't played on a spreadsheet. Running more doesn't automatically mean working harder, and having more possession doesn't necessarily mean playing better. Numbers help explain what we're watching, but they rarely tell the whole story.
- Football comes first
- I look at how teams actually play: positioning, movement, pressing, decision-making and the relationships between players. Where useful, I'll use tactical diagrams to make those ideas easier to understand.
- Willing to be wrong
- Football changes, teams evolve and new evidence can challenge old opinions. If I get something wrong, I'll say so. The point isn't to win an argument. It's to understand the game a little better.
A note on how I write
Every article starts with my own ideas, observations and research. I write and develop the arguments myself, originally in Finnish.
English isn't my native language, so I use AI tools to help translate, structure and polish my writing. The opinions, analysis and final editorial decisions are mine, and I take responsibility for what gets published.
Independent by choice
Fixing United is an independent publication with no affiliation to Manchester United Football Club, its owners or any media organisation.
Just football, evidence and a willingness to be wrong.
